    1. Sample 1-3 weeks after 80% has reached black layer.
      • Black layer generally occurs at grain moisture of 30-35%.
    2. Take an 8 inch segment of the stalk starting at 6 inches above the soil.
    3. Take 15 samples throughout an area up to 10 acres in size.
    4. Place the samples into a paper bag and mail to the lab.
    5. If the sample will be stored longer than a day before mailing, the sample should be refrigerated.
